When I checked the first volume of Fosse's Septology out of the library, I had to wait about six months before a copy was available. The third and final volume, by contrast, was made available to me immediately. This suggests that most of the readers in my town abandoned the work after the first volume or two, rather than seeing it to its conclusion. They made a mistake -- you shouldn't make the same mistake. The final chapters of the Septology continue Fosse's mesmerizing prose while adding more details about the relationship of Ales and Asle. The stunning conclusion is a powerful mix of present and past, memory and possibility, all made possible by Fosse's seamless prose.
